Diploma of Community Services Work
Why study this course?
The Diploma of Community Services Work is a nationally recognised qualification by the national regulator the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) and is designed to equip you with the skills and knowledge required to undertake a supervisory or management role in the Community Services industry.
The course covers an extensive range of subjects involving service delivery, either direct client work and/or community education or development projects.
Workplace Health and Safety and statutory and organisation requirements subjects introduce you to your legal responsibilities and obligations in the workplace. The course has a strong focus on clients including developing an understanding of client groups and the issues that impact on their lives through analysing sociological impacts. Other subjects cover supporting client decision making and coordinating services to address their needs. This also includes all aspects of client case management and conducting complex assessment of clients and making appropriate referrals.
You will learn to represent the interests of the community and/or the community services and health industries and provide advocacy services. You will develop skills in dealing specifically with cross-cultural awareness and issues involving working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals, organisations and communities.
To improve your personal skills you will develop effective workplace communication skills, plan and conduct activities with others and learn to reflect and improve on your professional practice.
Students are required to undertake supervised work placements in a relevant community service delivery setting, involving, for example, direct client work or community education or development.
