Fee Help

The Federal Government has introduced the VET FEE-Help loan scheme for full fee paying students undertaking Diploma or Advanced Diploma vocational education courses.

Phoenix Institute will seek to register as an approved VET-FEE HELP provider with the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations. If successfull in its application, Phoenix will be able to offer VET FEE-HELP assistance to eligible students enrolling in its 2009 Diploma courses.

The legislative guidelines are still to be approved by Parliament. However, VET FEE-HELP is expected to become available during the second half of 2008.

Phoenix Institute Refund Policy 2008

This policy comes into effect upon application for enrolment in the Diploma courses offered by Phoenix Institute of Victoria (‘the Institute').

'Diploma courses' means Diploma in Transpersonal Counselling, Diploma in Transpersonal Art Therapy.

How to apply for a refund:
Download the application for a refund form. To apply for a refund please complete the form and return to the Institute.

Refund Policy:

Deposits Paid in Respect of Diploma Courses
A full refund of the deposit will be made:
(a) If the Institute withdraws an offer of a place in the nominated course; or
(b) If the Institute cancels the nominated course

A refund of 90% of the deposit will be made if a student withdraws on or before 30 days prior to the course commencement date.
A refund of 75% of the deposit will be made if a student withdraws on or before 21 days prior to the course commencement date.
A refund of 50% of the deposit will be made if a student withdraws from the course within 20 days prior to the course commencement date.
No refund of deposit will be made once the course has commenced.
In any other circumstance, a refund of the deposit may be made at the sole discretion of the Institute Director.


Tuition Fees (Module fees)
The Institute will issue full refunds on tuition fees paid, in the following circumstances:
An offer of a place is withdrawn; or
The Institute cancels a course; or
The student fails to meet course progression requirements and is subsequently not permitted to continue the course. The student is eligible for a full refund of pre-paid tuition fees for subject modules not yet attempted.
In any other circumstance, a refund of tuition fees will be made at the sole discretion of the Institute Director.

The date which the Institute receives the Refund Application Form is the effective date for the purposes of calculating the refund paid.

An administration fee of $70 applies to all refunds, except to refunds that result from an offer of a place being withdrawn or a course being cancelled.

Who the refund is paid to:
The refund will be paid to the student, unless otherwise requested in writing by the student.

The refund may be paid by cheque and sent to the student's address (unless otherwise specified in writing), or through Electronic Funds Transfer, or credited to your credit card.

All refunds will be paid within four (4) weeks of receipt of the written refund application.

Centrelink

The One Year Intensive and the Two Year Diploma's in Transpersonal Art Therapy, Transpersonal Counselling and the Diploma in Holistic Counselling Practice have been approved by Centrelink to qualify you for student allowances, including Youth Allowance, Austudy payment, ABSTUDY and the Pensioner Education Supplement.

These allowances are means tested, and if you wish to apply please follow these steps:

Contact the Austudy Student Assistance Centre on 13 24 90 or visit the website: http://www.centrelink.gov.au/ to obtain information about your eligibility and obtain an Application Form.

Austudy requires a course commencement date to be submitted on your application. This information is given to you upon enrolment.

The one year intensive goes for 52 weeks, with an average of 28 hours per week, and the Two year delivery course goes for 104 weeks with an average of 20 hours per week.

Phoenix also sends you a confirmation of enrolment letter upon receipt of your deposit that you should attach to your Austudy application. You then mail or deliver it to the Austudy Student Assistance Centre.

Distance Education Option

Students living more than a 2 hour drive from Melbourne may arrange to do the course via the Distance Education Option.

Attendance via the distance education option is made up of the following components:

1) Students need to enrol in the two year delivery course (ie not the one year delivery)

2) Students need to attend each four day Module from Friday to Monday inclusive.

3) Students need to attend on average two of the 5 evening tutorials

4) Students recieve aditional one on one phone sessions with a tutor, for a total of 2 hours per Module.

The distance education option costs an additional $100 per module, to cover the one on one support, and additional materials.

Any requests for changes to this arrangement need to be discussed with the Director.

Please indicate your preference for the Distance Eduction Option in your enrolment form.

Diploma Accreditation



The Diploma has five types of professional accreditation. 

1. The Diploma in Transpersonal Counselling 51432 and the Diploma in Transpersonal Art Therapy 51431 are nationally accredited and are part of the National Traning Information Service (NTIS). Each Diploma course is equivalent to a TAFE Diploma.

2. The Diplomas are accredited by the Australian Counselling Association (ACA). The ACA provides membership and professional indemnity insurance for practitioners. (www.theaca.net.au).

3. The Diplomas are accredited by the International Institute for Complementary Therapists (IICT). IICT provides membership and professional indemnity insurance for practitioners. (www.iict.com.au)

4. The Diploma courses are fully accredited under the national umbrella organizations, the Society for Natural Therapists and Researchers [SNTR] and the National Charter for Natural Health Professions which covers Australia and New Zealand. 

Successful graduates may apply for membership of SNTR, which affords access to professional indemnity insurance, as well as chartered practitioner status under the National Charter. The latter professional status requires extended, professionally supervised and evaluated experience in practice.

5. The Diplomas are accredited by the Victorian Association of Holistic and Transpersonal Counsellors (VAHTC). VAHTC provides membership and professional indemnity insurance for practitioners
(www.vahtc.org.au).
